Took to the skies this morning, into a very busy training area. There were many different layers of low cloud, and while climbing out we had a slight scare. The engine suddenly dropped RPM and vibrated the airframe, Daniel immediately took control and engaged the carburettor heat. The problem appeared to be a bit of carburetor icing.

Anyway, after sorting that out and completing the climb, I did a number of medium and tight turns and instrument flying. We also did a few stalls and incipient spins. After this we lost some height and while rolling around the air we noticed a group of whales near the beach. We went down a bit further to get a better look. A helicopter was down there also, and after a while of trying to keep him in view, we bugged out back to FAPA.

After the flight and debrief I had breakfast in the canteen. Sharon (Neale's instructor) joined me for a cuppa tea/coffee and we chatted for a while. Instructors tend to consciously avoid students in a social capacity, but thankfully Sharon is far more friendly and down to earth!

In the afternoon I went into town with Neale and Waldo. Amongst biscuits and milkshake, we got a couple of presents for a few people on base (from me and Ben). We had to wait an hour for a photo to be developed, so drove up to Oddfellows for a beer. Sadly we stayed in there a bit too long; after the shops had shut and just before dinner was finished at 43. Luckily we returned in time for supper and some cards before calling it a day.
